The City of Monroe has issued a warning to residents about fraudulent emails and invoices that are falsely using the names of City boards and commissions. According to recent reports, these scam messages appear to come from entities such as the Planning Commission or the Board of Adjustment, and they request recipients to wire money in order to prevent delays in their cases.
City officials emphasized that these communications are not legitimate. “These messages are not from the City of Monroe. The City does not issue payment requests in this manner and will never contact residents by email, phone, or text to demand immediate payment, request wire transfers, or seek personal financial information for a public hearing,” stated city representatives.
Residents who receive suspicious invoices or messages are advised not to respond or send any payments. Instead, the City recommends contacting the Monroe Police Department to file a report and avoiding clicking on links or using phone numbers included in questionable communications.
The Monroe Police Department is currently investigating these incidents. Authorities encourage anyone with concerns about possible scams to remain vigilant and reach out for assistance.
“The City of Monroe is committed to protecting residents and ensuring clear, safe communication about public services,” officials said.
