Rep. Mark Harris, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from North Carolina, posted several tweets on December 6, 2025, addressing recent violent incidents involving undocumented immigrants in Charlotte and calling for stronger security measures.
In an early morning post on December 6, Harris advocated for military intervention, writing: “Yes. Send in the Guard.” This statement was made in response to ongoing concerns about public safety in Charlotte.
Later that day, Harris commented on a stabbing incident that occurred on the Charlotte Light Rail system. He wrote: “Meet the illegal alien charged with stabbing someone on a Charlotte Light Rail last night. Oscar Solarzano was previously deported and then illegally entered our country AGAIN. These are the folks NC’s pro-crime Democrats want to keep on the streets.” The tweet included criticism of local Democratic officials’ policies regarding undocumented immigrants.
In another post referencing past violence on public transportation in Charlotte, Harris stated: “This is the same train line Iryna Zarutska was murdered on.”
The issue of crime involving undocumented immigrants has been a subject of debate among lawmakers and local officials. Calls to deploy the National Guard have occasionally surfaced following high-profile incidents or spikes in violent crime, though such deployments are rare and typically reserved for emergencies or civil unrest.
Charlotte’s light rail system has experienced previous incidents that have drawn public attention and policy discussions regarding safety measures and immigration enforcement practices.
