Rep. Mark Harris, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from North Carolina, made several statements on December 8, 2025, addressing both federal COVID-19 subsidies and public safety concerns in Charlotte.

In a post on his social media account dated December 8, 2025, Rep. Harris stated: “60.5% of Americans agree that the Biden COVID subsidies should EXPIRE. If these subsidies continue, it’ll cost 400 BILLION over the next 10 years. Facts don’t lie. End the Biden COVID error subsidies.” This comment comes amid ongoing debate about the future of pandemic-related government spending.

Shortly after, Harris addressed crime issues in Charlotte following a reported incident on public transit: “A SECOND STABBING on the Charlotte light rail—on top of a nonstop crime wave. It’s past time to send in the National Guard. @NC_Governor, don’t you want to ensure there are no future Iryna Zarutskas?” The post refers to repeated violent events in the city and calls for state intervention.

Later that day, Harris posted another brief message: “Enough is enough.”

COVID-19 relief programs initiated under President Joe Biden were designed to support individuals and businesses during the pandemic’s economic downturn but have faced criticism over their long-term costs and necessity as conditions improve.

Charlotte has experienced increased attention regarding safety on its public transportation system following high-profile incidents in recent months.
