Rep. Mark Harris, a U.S. Congressman from North Carolina, published a series of posts on July 31, 2025, criticizing the non-governmental organization Siembra NC for its actions regarding immigration enforcement and law enforcement in the state.
In his first post, Harris alleged that Siembra NC is interfering with federal immigration authorities. He wrote: “The North Carolina NGO “Siembra NC” is actively sabotaging ICE by enabling illegal aliens to evade detention, while relentlessly promoting anti-Trump and anti-law enforcement propaganda. Here are just a FEW examples of their EXTREMISM https://t.co/HxPFfTN7MZ” (July 31, 2025).
Harris continued his criticism in a follow-up post: “It’s no surprise the same radicals who sabotage ICE also demonize our law enforcement, claiming that the history of the police is “racist”. Dedicating your career to keeping your community safe isn’t racist — it’s heroic. https://t.co/Y8BYWruYb8” (July 31, 2025).
In a third statement posted on the same day, Harris claimed that Siembra NC’s activities threaten public safety and national security: “Encouraging illegal aliens to “build power” with the goal of putting ICE agents and law enforcement officers in danger means one thing: Siembra NC wants our country to be taken over by invaders. https://t.co/0RWh4x7Ar4” (July 31, 2025).
Siembra NC is an advocacy group based in North Carolina that focuses on immigrant rights and organizing within Latino communities. The group has been active in campaigns opposing certain immigration enforcement practices and supporting local immigrants’ access to resources.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is responsible for enforcing federal laws governing border control and immigration. Non-governmental organizations such as Siembra NC have sometimes clashed with ICE over issues related to deportation policies and cooperation between local law enforcement agencies and federal authorities.
