Rep. Mark Harris, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from North Carolina, made several statements on his social media account in late January 2026 addressing legal and healthcare issues.
On January 22, 2026, Harris criticized actions reportedly taken by the special counsel’s office regarding attorney Stanley Woodward. He stated, “Jack Smith’s team suggested to Stanley Woodward that the Administration would view his judgeship bid more favorably if he got client Walt Nauta to cooperate against Trump. Completely inappropriate. A special counsel’s office should NEVER leverage an attorney’s career prospects.”
Later that day, Harris addressed a recent vote in the House of Representatives involving funding for hospitals. He wrote on January 22, 2026: “76 House Republicans voted to send YOUR tax dollars to hospitals performing gender mutilation on children and late-term abortions. Shameful.”
The following day, on January 23, 2026, Harris commented on abortion access in the United States and promoted legislation he is sponsoring. He said: “We live in a country where getting an abortion has become as easy as walking to your mailbox. That is NOT healthcare. That is deadly. It’s time to pass my Teleabortion Prevention Act and end this madness.”
In recent years, telemedicine has expanded access to abortion medication in many states across the U.S., with ongoing debates over its regulation at both state and federal levels.
The issue of using federal funds for medical procedures related to abortion or gender-affirming care remains highly contested within Congress and among advocacy groups.
Jack Smith serves as Special Counsel appointed by the Department of Justice to oversee investigations involving former President Donald Trump and related associates.
