Richmond County honors small business for its fight against COVID-19

Many stores have seen a huge drop in business lately because of COVID-19. 

However, some business owners are using their time and resources to help their communities fight against the spread of the virus. 

Affordable Hosiery is one of the businesses doing its part. 

Located in Ellerbe, the family-owned business mainly manufactures hosiery products, including women’s pantyhose and medical compression socks. Now, owners Rodney and Polly Mabe are using their resources to meet demands face masks. Eighty-percent of their current production is for face masks, distributing them to areas that have been hit the hardest by the virus. 

The efforts of the family-owned hosiery business caught the attention of Richmond County, with the Richmond County Tourism Development Authority recognizing the business as a “COVID-19 Hero” on their website. 

“We are beyond proud of this family-centered business in Richmond County and take pride in knowing that such an essential item as protective facial masks are being designed and manufactured right here in our community.” according to an April 6 article on the Richmond County Tourism Development Authority website.  

Affordable Hosiery opened in Ellerbe in 2014.
