The Union County Board of Education approved a measure to request calling on the county commissioners to allow more than $120 million referendum question to appear on the November election ballot.

The county school board is planning for a $129.5 million borrowing plan to upgrade the district's educational facilities, officials posted to the district website

The list of projects include the design and construction of replacement schools for Forest Hills High ($81 million) and East Elementary ($30.9 million), designs to repurpose Forest Hills High for East Union Middle ($2.4 million), design and construction of a field house and central plant addition to both Porter Ridge High ($1.5 million) and Marvin Ridge High ($1.5 million), design and construction to add five classrooms to Cuthbertson Middle ($1.8 million), land and design work for a replacement school for Parkwood High ($6.7 million) and a bond contingency at 3% ($3.8 million), according to the school board's bond proposal.

"With five high schools in UCPS at 60+ years of age, equity issues for school facilities, the need to repurpose buildings/sites, the need for replacement of other older schools and planning for the future, this proposal is an important next step for our community as we move forward," read the Education Board's bond proposal.
