Union County teachers have united to call on the education officials to switch to all-remote learning for the beginning of the school year.
In July, Union County Public School system officials said the district would follow a “Plan B” instructional model, which would have students attend classes in person one day a week on a rotating schedule, with the rest of the days being remote learning. The Union County teachers and staff, however, would be scheduled to work at the school essentially full time, seeing students every day.
Some teachers and staff said going back to school this way puts their health at risk and endangers the safety of students and the students’ families, WBTV 3 reported on July 29.
Teachers, staff and concerned parents are calling on the school district to choose the "Plan C" option, which would have the school adopt an all-remote school schedule that would offer virtual learning at the start of the school year.
They've started a petition on change.org, which currently has more than 3,000 signatures.
In a statement published by WBTV 3, the Union County Public School district said that “UCPS received feedback from employees through a number planning teams that were represented by Central Services staff, principals, administrators and PAC [Professional Advisory Council], which consist of teachers from each school that guided planning.”
