A former Covenant Day School teacher and coach who received child pornography was sentenced to six years in prison on Aug. 7 after his arrest in 2019.
Christopher Muggler, an employee at the Matthew-based school when arrested, was charged with five counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor when he was arrested on March 26, 2019, WBTV reported on Aug. 7.
Following the completion of his sentence, he will be under 10 years of supervised release and must register as a sex offender.
In February 2020, Muggler pleaded guilty in court to the child pornography charges.
There is no evidence "of physical activity with children," the Union County Sheriff's Office, WBTV reported, and there isn't any reason or evidence that students at the school were involved.
“According to filed court documents and yesterday’s sentencing hearing, FBI agents conducting an investigation into child exploitation became aware that an individual with the username ‘Muggadelphia12′ was receiving child pornography via Dropbox links, specifically videos that depicted young male victims being sexually abused," court documents said, WBTV reported.
The username was linked to Muggler and upon arrest, FBI agents found 110 photos and 34 videos of child pornography in Muggler's possession, WBTV reported.
