The Union County Tax Office said that it will send property owners their annual tax bill through the mail system.
Tax bills will be sent to the homeowners or mortgage companies that are responsible for paying property taxes, officials said in the Aug. 10 message.
This year, the tax rate is $0.7309 per $100 of the total property value. Payments are due Tuesday, Sept. 1. Property tax payments must be paid on or before Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2021 to avoid a penalty, tax officials said in the announcement. Payments that are postmarked after that date will be charged 2% in interest.
Tax officials said that payment plans are available. Residents who need a payment plan can call 704-283-3848.
To make a payment, residents can mail checks using the return envelope in the tax bill that came in the mail, tax officials said. Residents can also pay the bill in person. The tax office is accepting cash or checks on the first floor of the Union County Government Center.
The address is 500 N. Main Street, Monroe, NC. Payments can be made Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Residents can also use the drop box located on Stewart Street. Property owners can call 888-977-8411 to process their e-checks, or make credit or debit card payments.
