Rep. Dan Bishop (R-N.C.) will retain his seat representing the 9th Congressional District, based on the results from the state.

Bishop defeated his Democratic opponent Cynthia Wallace. Based on the results, Bishop received 63.8% of the vote, while Wallace tallied 36.2%.

"Congressman Dan Bishop's family has hailed for generations from Bladen County, in the eastern end of North Carolina's Ninth District, but he was born and lives in Charlotte, at the western end. Dan brings to the House an impressive background in policy-making, legal work, and commitment to Conservative North Carolina values," the congressman's website states

During his time serving the General Assembly, Bishop has cut taxes, fought against sanctuary city policies, limited spending, invested in schools and reduced health care costs in addition to many other accomplishments, his website states. He will continue to fight for these issues and many others during his time in the House.

Before Bishop served as a congressman, he served in the private sector for 29 years, during which he was the Mecklenburg County Commissioner (2004 to 2008).
