Knights drop a pair of matches at the royals classic

St Andrews University issued the following announcement on Aug. 20.

St. Andrews women's volleyball fell in their season opener contests today on day one of the Royals Classic on the campus of Warner University. The Knights dropped matches against the host institution Warner in game one and then later fell to Mobile in the second contest.

The Knights (0-2) dropped three sets to Warner by scores of 22-25, 19-25, 20-25. Later on the day, St. Andrews fell in straight sets to the Rams by scores of 14-25, 15-25, 15-25.

Senior Ashley McGugan (SR/Laurel Hill, N.C. ) led the Knights with a team-high nine kills, while sophomore Haley Ferris (SO/St. Augustine, Fla.) added six. Samantha Byrd (FR/Jacksonville, Fla.) and Kimberly O'Nell (SR/St. Augustine, Fla.) added five kills apiece. Setter Abigail Ives (SR/Eagle, ID) finished with a game-high 14 assists. As a team, the St. Andrews offensive attack finished with 32 kills and 30 assists. 

Senior libero Karina Lozada (SR/Bayamon, Puerto Rico) finished with 19 of the team's 39 digs. Adriana Santiago (SR/Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico ) added seven digs and 12 assists in game one.

St. Andrews 0, Mobile 3

Lozada finished with 15 digs marking her second consecutive game with double-figure dig attempts. For much of the match, the Knights attempted to come from behind but could not rally to overcome the deficit. Offensively, O'Nell led St. Andrews with six kills, while Andrea Rose (FR/Bronx, N.Y.), Byrd, McGugan each added three kills apiece. Andriana Santiago finished with seven of the teams 15 assists.
