Wingate and Queens play to 3-3 draw in SAC opener

Wingate University Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 15.

The Wingate University Bulldogs allowed two goals in the final 20 minutes of regulation Wednesday night, giving up a 3-1 second half lead en route to a 3-3 draw at Queens University in the South Atlantic Conference opener. Wingate moves to 2-2-1 overall and 0-0-1 in SAC play, while the Royals move to 1-1-1 overall and 0-0-1 in league play.

 KEY STATS

Each team took 10 shots

Wingate held a 7-6 advantage on shots on goal

The two teams combined for 36 fouls and five yellow cards

Each team attempted four corner kicks

KEY BULLDOGS

Devin Scully scored his first-career goal for the Bulldogs

Mikkel Fahlen Bruun found the back of the net for the second straight game

Soren Nygaard made his way on the scoresheet with a second-half goal

FIRST HALF

Scully got the 'Dogs on the board in the 25th minute

Jamie Boegel made a save on a potential Queens equalizer

Fahlen Bruun found the back of the net off a deflection to make it 2-0

The Royals cut the lead in half in the 45th minute

David Alvarez scored after a collision with Boegel with 22 seconds remaining in the first half

SECOND HALF

Nygaard's shot from outside the box cleared the Royals' keeper seven minute into the second half

It's the Danish junior's second goal of the season and 14th of his career

The Royals pulled within one goal in the 72nd minute on a Felipe Mendonca goal

Queens' got the equalizer from Mendonca in the 83rd minute on a header redirected just out of Boegel's mitts

OVERTIME

Wingate took the only shot of the period

Fabio Rodrigues' shot was deflected, but corralled by the Royals' keeper

SECOND OVERTIME

 Each team took two corner kicks in the second overtime period

A Pedro Santos header off a corner was the Wingate's best chance
