St. Andrews University Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 15.
St. Andrew women's soccer came up short in their second Appalachian Athletic Conference match on Wednesday, falling on the road to Montreat 5-1. This gives the Knights an 0-3-0, 0-2 AAC record for the season this far, while the Cavaliers move to 2-1, 1-1 AAC.
For Montreat, the score occurred almost immediately in the match as the Cavaliers were able to score their first goal at the sixth-minute mark. Montreat would find the back of the goal again in the 18th minute and the 29th minute, riding a 3-0 lead into the halftime break.
Minutes into the second half the Cavaliers extended their lead to four goals. St. Andrews was able to finally get on the board with 30 minutes left in the game when Faith Bogue (SO/Trinity, NC) set up teammate Kennedy Gehlen-Green (SO/Rockwall, TX) for her first goal of the season.
St. Andrews finished with four of seven shots on goal compared to 12 of 25 from Montreat. Zoie Steinkamp (SO/Foster, RI) had three shots, while Alexis Gordon (SO/Buies Creek, NC) and Trystan Morris (SO/Charlotte, NC) finished with one shot apiece.
Goalkeeper Joi Sturdivant (SO/Supply, NC) finished the game with six saves from 12 shots on goal attempts.
The Knights can now look and prepare for their next game, which will come on Saturday, Sept. 18, when they battle Tennessee Wesleyan. The match in Athens, Tenn. is set to start at 2:30.
