Wingate University recently issued the following announcement.
Three successful executives will share their leadership and entrepreneurship strategies with students this fall during a Lyceum series being offered by the Porter B. Byrum School of Business and set to begin Monday.
The sessions, scheduled from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the A/V Auditorium of the Ethel K. Smith Library, are free and open to the public. (Face coverings are required.)
Jose Alvarez, vice president of Prospera, will kick off the series. Prospera is a nonprofit organization that nurtures the economic development of Hispanic-owned businesses by providing bilingual assistance. Alvarez manages fundraising, programming, personnel oversight and community and government relations.
Fred Edwards, president and chief operating officer of Goulston Technologies, will speak on Oct. 18. A Monroe-based chemical company, Goulston is a world leader in surface modification technologies for fiber lubrication, polymer additives and chemical admixtures. Edwards graduated from Wingate University in 1988 with a bachelor of science in biology. He serves on the Porter B. Byrum School of Business Advisory Council.
Julie Bee, founder and chief executive officer of BeeSmart Social Media, will be the final speaker for the semester on Nov. 9. BeeSmart Social Media is a purpose-driven e-commerce digital marketing agency. Bee describes her entrepreneurial approach as “centered on compassionate and empathetic leadership.”
Each of the presentations will last for approximately an hour and will include a Q&A portion.
Dr. Sergio Castello, dean of the School of Business, says his goal for the series is simple: “As Mark Twain said: ‘Explore, dream, discover.’ I hope students feel inspired to imagine and create their own future.”
The leadership and entrepreneurship series will continue in the spring. This project received support from NC IDEA.
