City Council Special Meeting November 17, 2021

City of Monroe recently issued the following announcement.

Mayor Pro Tem Marion Holloway and Council Member Surluta Anthony have called a City Council Special Meeting to be held November 17, 2021 at 3:30 p.m.  The public hearing may be held in the Council Chambers located at City Hall, 300 West Crowell Street in Monroe, North Carolina or may be held remotely, with members of the public able to access the remote meeting at the City’s YouTube channel, at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzrGKOKR72fmCEn7D0f9mlg.  Prior to the November 17, 2021 Special Meeting of the City Council, notice will be posted on the City’s webpage advising if the Special Meeting will be held in the Council Chambers or remotely. 

The purpose of this Special Meeting will be to hold a public hearing and take possible action to consider a zoning map amendment request to rezone properties located at the intersection of E. East Avenue and Stafford Street Extension and 2026 Skyway Drive (Tax Parcel #s 09-180-004-90, 09-180-004-G, 09-180-004-H-80 and 09-180-004-H-90) from Residential Low Density (R-20) to General Industrial (GI) and text amendment request to amend Code of Ordinances – Title XV: Land Usage, Chapter 156: Zoning Code, Section 156.106 titled “Official Zoning Map.”

Citizens interested may appear in person and speak before City Council if the City Council Meeting is held in person or submit a written hearing submission. To submit and electronic comment, please use the following link: https://weblink.monroenc.org/Forms/Publichearing  The form must be completely filled out to be accepted. Individuals may mail a written public hearing comment to the following:  City Clerk, City of Monroe, P.O. Box 69, Monroe, NC 28111-0069.  Submissions should be provided in sufficient time to be received by Monday, November 15, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. No electronic or written comment will be read at the City Council Special Meeting; however, the comment will be attached to the City Council Minutes for the November 17, 2021 Special Meeting.

Any written submission for a rezoning hearing must be provided by 3:30 p.m., Monday, November 15, 2021.  This includes petitions from residents to be provided to the Council.  No written submissions to Council provided after the Monday, November 15, 2021 deadline will be accepted for the November 17, 2021 Special Meeting.  Citizens are reminded that under North Carolina General Statutes Section 160D-603, the deadline for a written statement or written materials in support of or in opposition to a rezoning is Monday, November 15, 2021 at 3:30 p.m.  Any submission provided after this deadline will not be accepted and even if handed to Council at the meeting, it will be rejected and not provided to Council.

Copies of any proposed documents are available for public inspection in the office of the City Clerk.  The Mayor reserves the right to adjourn the meeting to a place and time to be announced at said hearing.  As a result of the public hearing, there is the possibility of substantial changes being made to the advertised proposal, reflecting objection, debate and discussion at the hearing.  Any person may request an accommodation for a disabling condition in order to attend the hearing.  This request should be made to the City Clerk at (704) 282-4502.
