Description

Performs intermediate technical work in developing and validating the police database, coding and researching all records, verifying complex records, and related work as apparent or assigned.

Salary Range

$31,605 - $43,569 (Based upon training and experience)

Essential Functions

• Checks Officer mobile field reports.

• Enters Citations, arrest sheets and Officer's hand-written reports.

• Codes reports and supplements to be scanned and filed.

• Enters data into NCIC and DCI systems to be be available nationwide for stolen items or wanted and missing persons.

• Assists officers and the public on the phone or in person to provide information.

• Verifies previously scanned reports, citations or arrest sheets for missing information or errors.

• Validates the police database; responsible for complex coding and researching all records maintained.

• Completes requests by court personnel, attorneys, insurance companies, social service agencies and local businesses regarding police activity.

• Researches information maintained in various governmental databases; creates and uses information stored in a variety of media including microfilm, microfiche and scanned images.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED and minimal experience working with police records in a municipal or law enforcement setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of Police Department policies and procedures; thorough knowledge of database management; knowledge of the interaction of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies; ability to assist in the preparation of special reports; knowledge of the N.C.I.C. and D.C.I computer systems; knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 and position specific software; ability create and use information stored in a variety of media platforms; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and members of the public.

Physical Requirement: This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force and the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting, using hands to finger, handle or feel and repetitive motions, frequently requires speaking or hearing and occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling and reaching with hands and arms; work requires close vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operating machines and observing general surroundings and activities..

Special Requirements

• Minimum 35wpm typing speed

• Division of Criminal Information Certification (preferred)

• Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina.
