The Union County Special Events Center is being renamed to the Simpson Events Center in honor of longtime Commissioner Jerry Simpson.
The Board of County Commissioners surprised Simpson during Monday's meeting by introducing a resolution to rename the facility that opened last summer. Simpson was instrumental in advocating for an events center that would have a particular focus and attraction for agriculture-related events.
"It doesn't take long to see the depth and breadth of your importance to this community and your involvement in agriculture and I can't think of a better name to attach to this events center than yours," said Vice Chair David Williams.
