PINEHURST, N.C. -- Southern Pines Women’s Health Center (SPWHC), a FirstHealth clinic, has expanded its care team with the arrival of physician assistant Sahana Sankar.
Sankar received her Master of Physician Assistant Practice from Campbell University in 2021 and previously completed a master’s degree in counseling from North Carolina State University. Sankar said she’s excited to join the team at SPWHC and looks forward to meeting patients in Moore County.
“I consider myself very lucky to have the opportunity to join this team. I have known I wanted to work in women’s health since completing my rotations in PA school, so I am delighted to fulfill my goals in such an amazing place,” Sankar said. “Throughout school, my goal was to be an active listener and resource for my patients. As a provider, I hope to continue this for my patients by making them feel like they were listened to and advocated for during their time in our office.”
Sankar said she chose to go to PA school after previously working in mental health.
“There was absolutely an ‘Aha!’ moment for me, but it happened much later in my life. I wanted to be in a field where I could bridge the gap between a patient’s mental and physical needs. I could see there was a need for patients to have this support, and I knew I wanted to be a part of the solution,” Sankar said.
“I began the journey to becoming a PA, and I've never looked back. Fast forward a few years, and I found that need in women’s health where I was able to blend my background as well as my newly found interest in urogynecology, infertility and post-partum depression.”
Walter S. Fasolak, D.O., an OB/GYN at Southern Pines Women’s Health, said he’s excited to have Sankar joining the care team.
“We are thrilled to have Sahana join our team and I’m looking forward to seeing how her unique background can help us better care for patients,” he said.
Outside of work, Sankar enjoys spending time with her family and two dogs, Brinkley and Teddy. She also enjoys long walks, traveling, exploring new cultures and food, being in the mountains, cooking and reality TV and Friends.
