Shelton Collier, who has sustained a powerhouse volleyball program at Wingate University, announced on Thursday that he is stepping down as head coach after 21 years. His 1,150 wins are good for seventh all time in NCAA history, with 585 of them coming at Wingate, where his teams have won 30 conference regular-season and tournament titles and been to 16 consecutive NCAA tournaments.
Collier, who will be inducted into the American Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame later this month, also had successful coaching stints at Georgia Tech and the University of Pittsburgh. Read more at the Wingate Athletics site.
