WASHINGTON - Congressman Dan Bishop (NC-08) has expressed his satisfaction regarding the passage of the Protecting Americans' Data from Foreign Adversaries Act of 2024. Speaking on the matter, Bishop highlighted the significant concerns surrounding data protection and the role of data brokers in compromising individuals' privacy and security.

"Data brokers work in the shadows, collecting shockingly personal and sensitive information from Americans from every website and app they visit. They sell this information to our enemies abroad who use it for surveillance, blackmail, and espionage. That should alarm every American," emphasized Congressman Bishop.

Expressing his support for the new legislation, Bishop stated, "I believe that your data should be fully protected by a comprehensive data privacy and security law, and this bill is an important step toward that goal." He contrasted this approach with previous initiatives, such as the TikTok trojan horse bill, which he criticized for its specific targeting of applications while potentially leaving private data vulnerable to foreign entities.

Looking ahead, Congressman Bishop highlighted the importance of further measures to enhance data protection domestically. He affirmed, "The next step is to fully protect your data domestically, and I’ll continue to fight for legislation that does so," signaling his commitment to ongoing efforts in this area.
