WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Dan Bishop (R-NC) and Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) introduced a resolution declaring the month of May as “Fallen Heroes Memorial Month.”
In a joint effort, the two lawmakers aim to honor the servicemembers who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country by dedicating an entire month to their memory. The resolution, cosponsored by Representatives Anna Paulina Luna, Andy Ogles, and Kelly Armstong, has garnered support from the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Congressman Dan Bishop emphasized the importance of honoring fallen heroes beyond just one day a year, stating, "We all owe a debt of gratitude to the Americans who have bravely given their lives for our nation, and we should honor them for more than just one day each calendar year."
Senator Tommy Tuberville echoed this sentiment, highlighting the solemnity of Memorial Day and the need to remember and honor the sacrifices made by brave men and women. He expressed, “Memorial Day is not about grilling by the lake – it is a solemn day to remember and honor the brave men and women who have given their lives for this country.”
The resolution seeks an annual Presidential Proclamation to affirm gratitude for the fallen heroes and encourages Americans to remember and honor them throughout the month of May. Senator Tuberville, drawing from personal experience with his father's service in World War II, emphasized the significance of dedicating a month to recognize the heroism of those who lost their lives in service to the nation.
As the resolution is introduced, both lawmakers look forward to the possibility of designating May as “Fallen Heroes Memorial Month” and providing a platform for reflection on the sacrifices made by servicemembers.
