FOIA Request to Union County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Union News have submitted a request under the North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., for records related to the upcoming election.
Specifically, we are seeking a list of all candidates running in this forthcoming election. The requested information includes the first, middle, and last names of each candidate; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation.
In addition to these details about each candidate's campaign, we have also asked for contact information for each individual. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
Access to public records is essential for us at Union News to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
