FOIA Request Sent to Richmond County Election Department Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Richmond County Election Department on February 5, 2025. The request, issued by Union News, a media organization committed to comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, sought information regarding candidates running in the upcoming election.

In line with North Carolina Public Records Law, G.S. §132-1., Union News requested a list of all candidates participating in the forthcoming election. The specifics requested for each candidate included their first, middle and last names, the office they are running for, the jurisdiction of that office and their party affiliation.

Furthermore, Union News also requested contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number and email address.

As part of our commitment to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, we at Union News believe access to such public records is essential. We aim to use this information responsibly in our news reporting to provide comprehensive coverage of local governmental affairs.

The request also highlighted that as a member of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, Union News believes it is eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional.

We await response from the Richmond County Election Department and look forward to sharing these important details with our readers.
