October City Council Meetings

Due to the increased risk of exposure and possibility of transmission associated with the Delta strain of COVID 19, all guests, staff, and officials will be required to wear face masks at the October 12 Monroe City Council Strategic (4 p.m.) and Regular (6 p.m.) meetings at Monroe City Hall. As additional precaution, the number of guests will be limited to the number of available seats inside the council chamber. There will be an additional room with limited seating for guests to hear the proceedings until they are called to speak. The mask requirement and seating limitation will be enforced by law enforcement.

City Council will have their Strategic Planning Meeting (4:00 p.m.) and Council Regular Meeting (6:00 p.m.) on October 12, 2021.  The meetings will also be recorded and posted for the public to watch on the City of Monroe YouTube channel at Monroe North Carolina Government https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzrGKOKR72fmCEn7D0f9mlg?  The Agenda Packets for the meeting are scheduled to be published on October 8, 2021 and will be accessible at the following link:  https://monroenc.civicclerk.com/web/home.aspx.

PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD (Written submission deadline October 11, 2021 at 3:00 pm)

Citizens interested may appear in person if the City Council Meeting is held in person and speak before City Council during the Public Comment Period during the Regular Meeting at 6:00 p.m. or submit a written comment.  A public comment on a matter that is or has been the subject of a public hearing is not permitted under City Council’s Public Comment Rules (https://www.monroenc.org/Portals/0/Resolution%20R-2019-23.pdf?ver=2020-11-26-115837-000).

To submit an electronic comment, please use the following link:  https://weblink.monroenc.org/Forms/Publiccomment.  The form must be completely filled out to be accepted.  Individuals may mail a written public period comment to the following:  City Clerk, City of Monroe, P.O. Box 69, Monroe, NC 28111-0069.  No electronic or written comment will be read at the City Council Regular Meeting; however, the comment will be attached to the City Council Minutes for the October 12 Meeting, and provided to the City Council prior to the October 12 meeting.  Submissions should be provided in sufficient time to be received by Monday, October 11, 2021 at 3:00 p.m.  Any written submissions not received by the 3:00 p.m. October 11, 2021 deadline will not be provided to Council.

PLANNING AND ZONING PUBLIC HEARINGS (Written submission deadline October 8, 2021 at 5:00 pm)

Citizens interested may appear in person and speak before City Council if the City Council Meeting is held in person or submit a written hearing submission. To submit and electronic comment, please use the following link: https://weblink.monroenc.org/Forms/Publichearing  The form must be completely filled out to be accepted. Individuals may mail a written public hearing comment to the following:  City Clerk, City of Monroe, P.O. Box 69, Monroe, NC 28111-0069.  No electronic or written comment will be read at the City Council Regular Meeting; however, the comment will be attached to the City Council Minutes for the October 12, 2021 Meeting.

Any written submission for a rezoning hearing must be provided by 5:00 p.m., Friday, October 8, 2021.  This included petitions from residents to be provided to the Council.  No written submissions to Council provided after the Friday, October 8, 2021 deadline will be accepted for the October 12, 2021 meeting.  Citizens are reminded that under North Carolina General Statutes Section 160D-603, the deadline for a written statement or written materials in support of or in opposition to a rezoning is Friday, October 8, 2021 at 5:00 p.m.  Any submission provided after this deadline will not be accepted and even if handed to Council at the meeting, it will be rejected and not provided to Council.
