Union County issued the following announcement on Sept. 9.
The Union County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing on September 21, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. in the Commissioners Board Room on the first floor of the Government Center to hear input on the location of the Confederate monument outside the Historic Courthouse along North Main Street. The Board will meet for its regular meeting at 3:00 p.m., prior to the public hearing at 6:00 p.m. Individuals who sign up to speak for the public hearing will have three minutes. Those who wish to speak, are encouraged to sign up in advance online. A sign-up sheet for speakers will be available at the Government Center from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on September 21, 2020 prior to the public hearing.
Capacity will be limited inside the Board Room and in the overflow room to allow for physical distancing due to COVID-19. However, there will be a procedure to rotate speakers in and out of the Board Room so everyone who signs up to speak will have the opportunity to do so. Please note a seat in the Board Room is not guaranteed. Individuals requesting a sign language interpreter or other special assistance under the Americans with Disabilities Act should call 704.283.3810 at least 96 hours in advance.
