The Town of Waxhaw (pop 20,534) is seeking a highly skilled professional for the position of Finance Director. The new Finance Director will have the opportunity to work on numerous projects as town operations and services continue to grow in response to the new population and service demand. Waxhaw is in excellent financial condition as town leadership has positioned the town to utilize existing resources to complete smaller scale capital projects while developing a debt capacity that will allow for the building and development of sorely needed facilities that will serve the public for decades.
Incorporated in 1889, Waxhaw has a long and rich history. Located approximately 20 miles south of Charlotte, Waxhaw remained a distant suburb until the last ten years when the in-migration to the Charlotte area increased the population by over 100%. Waxhaw responded to the influx and has resulted in a thriving, bustling community with small town charm. Waxhaw is also the only town in western Union County that provides a full allotment of municipal services, including police, street maintenance, trash and recycling pickup, parks and recreation, building inspections, engineering, planning and zoning, among others.
The ideal candidate must have exceptional leadership skills, the ability to handle complex projects, and know when to delegate appropriately. The director should be approachable and have strong project management, communication, and presentation skills. Also, must be able to foster and maintain good relationships with staff, other agencies, partners, and the community by being responsive, positive, and collaborative. Effective communication skills and good judgement are a must. The starting hiring range is $85,000 to $107,000.
